Geek expo experience by vanilla

First glance

As you arrived at the at the expo you where greeted with the different food vans and drinks you could enjoy through out the day, and upon entering the build your meet in a crowed hallway to get wrist bands for the day you will be there. I will admit that the area for the wrist bands could of been placed better as for you to get a band to enter the event you would block the only entrance being used which if it was only to enter and leave it would of been find but most people where using it regularly to go get food and drinks through out the event. Going on to   my first look around the expo so I knew what was going on each room and how busy the event was, it wasn’t great as I learnt quickly that there was only a small area in uses. this being a main hall that hosted the events / activities, a bigger sports hall that hosted the market area a small school class room extended to that and the a joining hallways between the rooms which where not to big. For an event where lots was supposedly going on or going to happen the atmosphere was very under welling it didn’t feel like there was much to the event. I will say though that I was a where there was supposed to be a outside area for a few more activities which could of made the event live up to the expectation however for the weather on the day I visited it meant these activities couldn’t go forth for health and safety reasons.  I also don’t believe these actives happened on the second day as well as the weather was worse on that day as my as I didn’t attend on that day to find out.

Main hall

First talking about what I believed could of been better so we can end on a more positive note for the event the main hall was there area that hosted the events. some of these events being bingo and a few different types of quizzes along side the main cosplay contests one being for children and others for adults, sadly the cosplay contests where under welling as there wasn’t as many people participating as would of been hoped for, but some of the good cosplays where Memow from apothecary diary’s, Vox from Hazbin hotel and somebody in a halo outfit that as very well made. These events where hosted a the staged of the room around this set up thought there was a laser tag area for children to have fun and entertainment. as well as a few stands and lots of tables and chairs. the stands most consisted of game guns and props that had been professionally made in which you would be told no to touch the table or the stands that where with them as well as a few stands for different charities however there sadly wasn’t much telling you about the charities other than a few names no of which had a person that you could talk to for you to learn more about them or to have a way to donate if you wished to.

The table and chairs that filled the rest of that area in the hall was supposed to have games and activities to do which would of given the adult more to do but they where mostly used as a area you could sit down and dump your stuff not many if any people I saw at those tables where interacting with the activities that been place on them.

Sports hall

When you first walk in to this area of the event it look very busy which would suggest the was more activities to do but this area ended up mostly being an area to buy items and chat. However there was a small area as you enter from the far entry where you could draw or tag your self to send or share with though hosting the event. In the stalls that where set up there was a nice range of this to see and buy. Examples of this is the stalls that where selling Pokémon cards and figurines, and arts and craft for you to purchases one that I enjoyed seeing was a small stall that was selling hand crafted paper horns. As they explain that how long it took to make some of the items they where selling as well as a big purple dragon that they had made that look like a plushie, but took them a few months and lots of news paper to make. There was a stall being operated by a author called Grissea Fox who was selling a mix between murder mystery, horror and spicy books, and a few stall that where not selling but showing of different cosplays that they had made one I remember was from demon slayer and was well made, you could honestly see the effort that they had put into the cosplay. This hall connected to a small classroom in which you could look at bush craft and people dressed to meet older ages of history, in which there things you could buy I personally didn’t look in to this area as much as liked as the area was almost always crowed but I was aware that one thing that was going on in there as tattoos that you chose to have done. From what I could see the options that where available where mostly I want to say Northwick designs and though that would fit in to how we see the Viking era.

Food court & halls

There was much out in the food court but there was still a good option for snacks and treats I would say as this event hand a ice-cream van as well as a doughnut van that I enjoyed seeing. there was also a van handing the dirking sadly as this event was in a school there was no acholic beverages however there was a nice selection of different types of coffees and teas as well as a good selection of soft and fizzy drinks for children and those not interested in a hot drink. finally there was one last van that was selling mostly chippy based food such as sausages chips and snacking food. Going on to the small amount in the hallways between the bigger areas of this event I found that the main hallway that lead between all three areas was most the time a bit busy and crowed however the side corridors where quiet but i believe that’s was because you didn’t really need to use them to get around the event. In the main hallway though there was a few tables set out one of which was set out for a charity supporting bereavement and loss of baby’s. This stall even though still unoccupied by a person was one of the only charity stall that i would say explain them self well that you would understand what they where doing and a way to help if you would of liked to, and the other tables that stood in the main hallway had a small tombolo for kind to win a small toy a couple tables to show of more intricate detailed cosplay helmets and accessories. 

Conclusion

I would say over I go to enjoy the day I spent at the expo however it definitely could of had more activates to do or people to actually interactive with the stall that had been set up as most ended being unoccupied if they where not selling items and making something out of the area the where in. Not being fun but there could of been ways the event could of been done differently to add more entertainment or activities where would be to swap the halls so the contests and main actives where hosted in a bigger arear or asking to use more space when setting up the event so could host table top game over some basic board games that just didn’t catch peoples attention. but i would say this event was till worth attending just wasn’t an event i would try bring a child to as I don’t believe I would of been able to keep them entertain for the main period of time the event was going on.
