Membrillo hid my socks

Membrillo hid my socks is a point and click game about helping Membrillo’s owner find her sock collection that Membrillo the cat has got into and scattered around her house. The game itself is filled with simple but fun puzzles to add a difficulty level to the game.

Story behind the game

The game starts by introducing Membrillo the cat to you by saying he is the most important thing to his owner other than their pristine sock collection, and that he is normally a very chill cat; however, at the start of this particular day the owner accidentally left their sock collection drawer open and well, chaos unfolded with the owner’s sock collection.From which, now your responsibility is to find the full sock collection.   

Game play

You start the game in one of four rooms that you can access at the start of the gam,e in which you see Membrillo sleeping in the window and one of the 3socks in plain sight, this for me is the ketchup sock. If you continue looking around this room by just clicking different items you can come across a second pair of socks and a flash light in, which you will need later in the game. Continuing with the other three rooms, there should be either simple to a simple to find pair of socks in each or ones that are in plain view. As you start clicking around each of these rooms, you will start to find items you will need to find the more difficult to find socks and to be able to access some of these socks. An example of this is the shears you need to be able to cut down the plant in the starting room, so you can obtain the chop limbs in a garden sock and key that you will need to open a draw on your bedside cabinet.

 Puzzles

Going deeper into this game, you start to find that the socks are really too hard to find or get hold of this is due to them being hidden in or around puzzles of this game. One of these puzzles is on the floor in the room with the computer screens. In this puzzle you job is to untangle the wires so you can get the pair of socks that are stuck with the wires. This is one of the simpler puzzles as you have to unplug different items that slowly untangle the wires, the only thing is you have to press the right plugs otherwise they may just tangle again even when you think you have almost done it. However, one of the harder puzzles can be inside the bedside cabinet, as it is a sliding item puzzle where you aim to move different items out of the way so you can get another pair of socks out of the drawer. the positive to this puzzle in the game is that there is to difficulty levels that you can change willingly if you are finding it too hard to get the pair of socks out of the drawer. This puzzle itself is personally one of my favourites however, I have only ever been able to beat it on the easier difficulty. 

Audio and graphics 

Starting with the graphics of this game, I would say they look to mostly be hand-drawn but fit well with the story of the game and give a basic yet detailed feel to the game. I have found the game to have areas of the game that could have been done with a little more detail from time to time; however, not having still give you feeling of a relaxed game. Going onto the audio of the game, it matches the graphics well and is a simple yet extremely relaxing beat. There are only a few tunes in the music that are played in the background, but it gives off a calming vibe, which gives your focus on the game and the graphics which I find quite nice. There is also one more audio noise in the game other than the background music, though, this being the sound you hear when you find a pair of the 30 socks. I find this to be quite uplifting when it’s taken a while to find the next sock, but it also just gives off the sound as if you just won a prize. I find that when hearing this sound, it can bring up the mode of the game again, but also give the motivation to continue playing the game.

Achievements 

This section is small as of me reviewing this game; however is very interesting. Membrillo hid my socks has only a total of 15 achievements. So many of these relate to you finding the different pairs of socks; however they also have other areas of achievements such as searching all the rubbish in the game, trying to harm Membrillo the cat or simply completing the game in under 30 minutes. I personally like how there is an achievement for smashing everything, as it is less common in games. But I bring attention to the achievements, as it shows why you should play the game over. making it an easily replayable game this being the two of the achievements in the game, the first being to get the bad ending called (Deja Vu), and the second being the good ending (Harmony).

Criticism 

I can only find one fault in this game, in my personal opinion. This is due to the time it can take to complete the game, as it is due to being hard to keep interest in finding the socks when you are completely clueless about where to even look next. This game could honestly do with a clue button or hints for where to even start looking for some of the socks, as I personally would not have found them if it wasn’t for me aimlessly pressing around the screen and using a tip and hints page on Steam for some of the socks. One of those is the bug socks.

Overall

overall I personally have enjoyed this simple point and click game. I have used this game to sit and relax while winding down for the day. Yes, there have been small periods of time where I struggled with the game itself as it lacks some direction, but I also found that having the difficulty in the game gave me a need but simple but challenging game for when I want a simple but relaxing game. I would recommend this game to someone who either wants to test their brain a little or someone who would like to relax while playing a laid-back kind of game. I can also find this game being fun for the view that collect achievements as much as there aren’t many, as they can be simple to complete yet have fun collecting on your own or with a close friend. This game also has one other simple yet nice feature to give out, and that is that it’s free on Steam and at the current moment of time so it allows you to give it a try yourself and see if you enjoy it as much as I do.
