Idol of Fear -Review
(A Free Fear and hunger like game that no one is talking about)

So fear and hunger has made a name in the gaming world for being brutal and messed up so other games are making a fear and hunger
like games that the fans call “funger”.
But I found a game that had to guides, walk-throughs or any hints in any videos. I think the only walkthrough is my stream archive, and man its long
So many deaths and so much getting lost it broke me, and that is Idol of Fear.

Story

Idol of Fear is a medieval survival horror game where you play as knight Elsbeth Krähenlied, exploring dark catacombs to retrieve a cursed idol.
Along the way, there are many terrors and horrible monsters you encounter on the way.
Now I know what you are thinking, another fear and hunger game agian well here’s the thing.
This game was for a competition on Toasty Jam To create an RPG Maker game in 9 days to win $200
But from the looks of things, the game was continued to be made.

Gameplay

So the combat is seriously brutal; every attack you make has a bar that appears, and you have to try to get it in the middle
Another feature you need to check is walk back and walk forword and the reason is if you have a close rage weapons, you need to be infround or if you are going for a big sword, bow or even a fire bomb, you may want to step back. The enemies can do that, and by god if they do that, it can be challenging.

There is a guard move that you will relly one later, and there is also a heavy attack move, but use that sparingly
Of course, there’s bleeding and all the bad effects in the game, in which they don’t tell you, so you need to figure it out yourself.
Many place to see, and many times you will get your butt kicked, trust me. One of the gameplay features is that you can pick up chairs and when you are in battle, get a free move to throw it. anotherone if you walk to the enemy behind them, you can get a free assassination move that really does serious damage, but they can also do to you.
Just like in fear and hunger, when you get items there always different every time you play.
when you get these skill points in the later game and seriously in the later you can be taken to a graveyard world where you can use these points to level up.
In combat, there is a hold shift and attack, making a heavy blow, but that will take some of your hunger down every time you do that. It’s very effective.

There is no direction on which way to go, and many times you will die either in combat or in encounters. My god thats not the worst thing when you die and load some times when you load you will either get a dialogue saying all your money is gone or skill point has been taken, but that can be easily worked around by quitting and loading again.

Just like fear and hunger items in the game, you find in boxes are always are random, and there are choices you make along the way.
Some boss fights have two levels of hp and they can do what you do. Limbs breaking is another thing, but it can easily be repaired by an item, so it’s less forgiving.

Visurals and sounds.

Yeah, your typical RPG maker music is nice, and some moments get very eerie. Some of the art style is really nice and well done,

Bugs that you need to avoid

Well there are some bugs, and one bug I will let you know not to go in because if you do and leave, some important areas will be bugged. There is a room where a man is in a black room, and the lights flick on and off. Honestly, there is nothing but that and him killing you. If you leave that room, then most of the areas will have that flickering light on and off and will kill you, so if you see that room, just die and never go in that room.

Overall

The game is very much like a fear and hunger, even though there’s no limb lost, and you can easily save the game really does punish you a lot.
And again, this game was for the Toasty jam competition to create an RPG Maker (or similar*) game in 9 DAYS. And from what I saw, the person continued on.
The best thing about this game its free on itch.io. As for my self i enjoyed this game and gave them money but up to you if you want to support them or just download it for free
