Dead Cells – Game review

dead cells

So in my time, I love a good challenging game like the Dark Souls game style. Also a fan of some 2d platform games back in the day, heck metroid on the SNES was a classic.
Now combine all that with a sash of rouge, like. I bring you dead cells!

Dead Cells is a 2d fast paste action rouge 2d platform with a lot of Metroidvania feels. Every playthrough is always different.

Story

You play the role of the prisoner (or other names for him as The beheaded or the fallen one)
A small immortal Blob with one eye that can control Headless corpse Tring to figure out why or who he is and why he keeps dying in a ever changing dungeons.

Gameplay

So its a very fast past, and yep, you are going to die over and over but every time you get far in the came you can spend souls for new weapons
Not to mention getting stronger and knowing your areas and path, this will be very important in the game as you find there are different areas to pic everytime toy restart after death but the map layout for each areas will always be different
what also makes the replay fun if finding little rooms from either the lore to the game or some funny crossover indy game weapon or suit from Half-Life to Hotline Miami, terraria and many more.

dead cells

There are over 180 weapons and items to find and use. Weapons you find in the game will have extra things in the weapon like bugs or any elements, and the weapons will have stacks
In each area you pass, you can use the gold coins to level them up or change the perks inside the weapon

With that being said each time you go to an area, you can attack mutilations to increase the abilities of the player, but you can only get up to 3

In each area you start, you will find scroll stats

These scrolls are a mechanic in Dead Cells which modifies the player’s damage output and health pool, as well as properties of many mutations based on their level during a run.
There are three different stats: Brutality, Tactics, and Survival. All stats are set to 1 at the start of every new run and can be increased through specific actions.

Items and weapons will have a colour for each stats again Brutality, Tactics, and Survival.

Knowing your enemy and bosses

There are so many enemies and a lot of challenging bosses, and each one will test you in some brutal ways. Each monster and bosses are always has their own moves, so remember them and do it very well.
One messed-up move, you’re back at the start. Trust me, be fast

visual and audio

The art is spot on, and the visuals is amazing, really spot on. I love a good 2d game with a lot of art styles like this.

The things that make me smile

So there are tons of funny things as well as crossover indy games but the Castlevania DLC had to be the best dlc there, hearing that classic music, and heres the thing that made me laugh
at the start of the game, if you die don’t do anything. Dot even move.
(PUT IN THE THE KONAMI CODE)

Another thing that makes me smile is the fact that there is a TV show on Amazon and YouTube of the series called Dead Cells : Immortalis

Overall

This right here is a damn amazing gem for fast paste 2d hack and slash with the Metroidvania elements as well as a lot of things to do, from covering different dungeons and finding things its just addictive.
Even though the game gets rough and challenging the more you get through The DLC they have is totally worth the price and the time.

the fact its been out for a while and it’s still polished. They finished the game, and no more updates will be added. When I say that no updates are left its finished and polished. Heck, if you are a streamer, they even have Twitch streaming integration

The games are out on every platform, and it’s worth the look still to this day
